Universal and Andrew Lloyd Webber are teaming up to bring theater into homes during the coronavirus outbreak.
The Shows Must Go On program will offer a full-length Andrew Lloyd Webber musical for free each week on YouTube. The first is “The Phantom of the Opera” at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday, April 17, at 11 a.m. PST, 2 p.m. EST for a 48-hour period.
To celebrate Phantom’s 25th anniversary, Cameron Mackintosh produced a unique version of the musical in 2011. It included a cast and orchestra of more than 200 to capture the character of London’s Royal Albert Hall and special guest appearances.
The YouTube production and watch party will have influencers, media and possibly some of the performers joining the conversation via Twitter and Instagram.
