As a parent, I’m always searching for ways to save money for our family trips especially with inflation and gas prices on the rise! We caught up with Geroge to see what tips he has for planning a trip and what city offers the most for your money!
Share your top 2 tips on saving money when traveling and/or what are two things to consider when planning a trip.
Research and creativity are the two things I advocate for the most. Dig deep and search beyond the first page of Google or Tripadvisor results. That’s where I often find hidden gems. And be creative when choosing activities… try things that you might not do in your hometown. It’ll open up so many more options.
What city that you’ve visited so far offers more bang for your buck? (Or which do you think is the best city to visit on a budget?)
Well, the longest episode of the first season was Milwaukee. And that’s because we kept finding fun things to include. Even though it’s one of the smaller cities we’ve visited in this series, I was amazed by how much fun stuff there was to do.
What has been your favorite city to visit so far? What cities are on your Bucket list?
I grew up in the New York City area, so I’m biased towards NYC. But I also love Chicago. I’d been there before, but it’s always a pleasure to return.
As for bucket list cities, I’m going international… Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, and Barcelona are on my list.
Los Angeles isn’t the cheapest city to vacation, did you find it difficult to find things to explore and stay under $100 especially for families.
I do have an advantage since I’ve lived in Los Angeles for many years. But even so, I think the combo of research and creativity still applies. For example, I had no idea about the “French Dip Sandwich Rivalry” that exists in Downtown LA. But with some research, I discovered some delicious, affordable food that also has some Los Angeles history attached to it.
What inspired you to create MillionStories.com, George Goes Everywhere?
Well, I worked in television for many years, but also had a passion for travel. And since I didn’t always have a large budget, I had to get creative in my travel plans. Eventually, it just made sense to combine these two aspects of my life and create a show like this.
What 2 songs would fuel your travel playlist?
I’m going old-school! Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin, and Panama by Van Halen.
