20th Century Fox has just dropped the first trailer for Kingsman: The Golden Circle starring Taron Egerton as Eggsy, the young suave spymaster who is a part of an elite group of British spies called the Kingsman. The sequel sees our spies in a wee bit of trouble when their headquarters is destroyed and the world is held hostage by the villainess Poppy (Julianne Moore). They soon discover that they have allies across the pond, and they team up with the Statesman, the US version of the Kingsman, to take out a common enemy.
Now the trailer is a bit light, only running at a minute and 53 seconds, but it doesn’t hold back on any of the highly stylized action sequences. All of it playing against the soothe sounds of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” While we are familiar with the fashion and etiquette of the Kingsman, the Statesman play by a whole different set of rules. See, in the US, the Statesman literally cowboy up, with their weapons ranging from deadly lassos to flask-grenades. A stark contrast to the beanbag rifle umbrellas, electric cufflinks, and poison bladed-tipped leather shoes.
Jeff Bridges will play as the head of the Statesman, with Pedro Pascal and Channing Tatum acting as the secret agents. Halle Berry is the Stateman’s tech support, offering agents all sorts of Americanized gizmos and gadgets befitting a Statesman and living up to every American trope you can imagine.
But perhaps the most surprising thing of all – aside from the fact that Elton John stars in the film – is that Colin Firth’s Harry Hart makes a miraculous return after being seemingly shot dead in the first Kingsman film. His appearance even shocked Eggsy and Merlin (Mark Strong). We’ll just have to hope that the stunning development doesn’t last long as the spies have the world to save.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens in theaters on September 22, 2017.
