Last night, Fandango in conjunction with Marvel Studios held an art gallery at Los Angeles’ very own Hero Complex Gallery to celebrate the upcoming release of Thor: Ragnarok. Directed by Taika Waititi, the third installment of the Thor franchise sees the title character (played by Chris Hemsworth) on a journey home after the all-powerful Hela (Cate Blanchett) banished him to the gladiator planet of Sakaar. There he will have to fight all sorts of contenders, but one will not make it easy as the planet’s top warrior turns out to be the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).
The gallery features over 40 different pieces from a variety of artists from Vance Kelly and 100% Soft to Craig Drake and Dan Mumford. And much like the marketing, the pieces are a colorful and rocking reflection of the film, which looks like it was pulled straight out off a heavy metal CD album.
Mumford’s pieces see the four Revengers aka Loki, Valkyrie, Hulk, and Thor facing down Hela on the rainbow bridge. It’s probably one of my favorite pieces. Two pieces I am particularly fond of is the Craig Drake Valkyrie and Hela. Drake’s pieces give the subject the highest detail by focusing on it and surrounding it with simple textures and blocking. But it’s hard to ignore how cute 100% Soft’s Thor: Ragnarok. It’s Kawaii features make it all too adorable. Even Gladiator Hulk is too hard to resist.
Just like the art, Thor: Ragnarok is a fun-filled colorful blast. It’s hilarious and action-packed, and it has some great performances from Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Mark Ruffalo. Not to mention Tessa Thompson who impresses as Valkyrie, and makes a cast to have her own standalone film. Below we have some of our favorite pieces from the gallery.
Although there was a special opening last night, Hero Complex Gallery, located at 2020 Robertson Boulevard, Studio D, Los Angeles, CA 90034, will open the Thor: Ragnarok art gallery to the public tonight starting at 7pm to 10pm. It will run from today until November 5, 2017, where any art that does not sell out will be made available to the public on their official website.
