The SuperStar S100 Wireless Speaker from Monster is a tiny powerhouse of sound that fits in the palm of your hand. This is the smallest speaker in the SuperStar Series, which also includes the S200 and S300. This wireless speaker is small and compact, but don’t let its size fool you. It packs some power and sound that is unbelievable.
Features:
• Fully Water, Weather and Splash-Proof (Rated IPX7)
• 6+ to 9+ Hours of Continuous Playtime
• Superior Quality Speakerphone with Echo Noise Cancelation
• Full Range Driver and Bass Radiator: For Full Balanced Sound
• Heavy Duty Durable Cabinet
My first thought when I looked at the S100 was that the sound and bass were going to be just okay. I was wrong. I’ve used speakers that were this size and they were not as impressive as the S100. I tried it out with some of my favorite EDM and was amazed by the sound. The sound quality didn’t power out as I increased the volume to higher levels too.
Because of the pyramid design and construction of the speaker, it isn’t exactly a 360-degree speaker. If you face the grill of the speaker toward your direction makes the sound is much better, but the sound is still great even if it is not facing in your direction. The S100 is rated IPX7 waterproof, splash-proof, solid construction and crafted to be durable for outdoor use.
The box packaging does say that the battery life can last 9+ hours of continuous playtime, but that is if you have usage and sound output at lower levels. At higher levels and usage the battery life will be at 6+.
There is a speakerphone function on the speaker, so you can take calls while using the speaker for music. When I tried out this function, the person on the other end said that the sound was pretty clear.
Specs:
• Size is about 4″ x 4″ x 6″
• Weighs less than .50 lbs (7 ounces)
• Lanyard attached
The speaker has some pretty limited control functions with the single Multi Function Button (MFB) on one side of the speaker. The MFB controls the power, pairing, play/pause music, and phone call answer/end/reject. Just above the MFB is the speaker’s LED light that indicates the mode/condition it is in.
On the opposite end of the speaker is a rubber covering which hides the reset button, AUX in and micro USB charging ports.
This speaker is a great for using in a living room, hotel room, backyard or bathroom. Connecting and syncing is easy. The only problem I have is that there is no visible display, even though the one button control is easy to use.
The SuperStar S100 retails around $69.95, while the other two speakers in the SuperStar Series, which are a bit larger and have the same design, retails around $129.95 (S200) and $179.95 (S300).
