SoCal families will be gathering for a taste of fair food, dance to the sounds of uplifting music, and hit all the fun rides and attractions at the 2014 OC Fair, from now until August 10th. My daughter was counting down the days until she could finally ride the bigger carnival rides!
The OC Fair is a yearly ritual for my family. Every year we look forward to trying a new deep fried concoction or eating some of our old favorites. Honestly, the food is the highlight for us. Once a year we can indulge in a few guilty pleasures with a smile. What did we try this year? This year my husband and I tried the Carne Asada Nachos from Mucho Crazy Nachos located in the Main Mall section and we devoured our large order of nachos, loaded with cheese, carne asada, pinto beans, chips, jalapeno peppers, guacamole and sour cream. The portion was large enough to be shared for two people and cost just over $10.
Next, my daughter requested corn on the cob and we were happy to oblige. The Original Char-Broiled Corn Stand offers yummy corn for $4.50! The corn is grown right in Gilroy, CA and they are delicious!
My husband usually goes for a pulled-pork sandwich but decided on a sausage dog from Juicys. It’s 1.25 lbs of beef on a buttered bun. You just might want to share this with your family. The dog has a bit of a kick to it but is good.
Let’s get to the desserts- Deep-fried Snickers was on our menu this time around. For $5, we received a deep-fried Snickers bar, served on a stick. Oh yeahhhh! It was good! The three of us shared the delectable treat as it is really rich. We also had a sweet, chocolate dipped banana with sprinkles. This frozen bananas doesn’t melt as quickly as an ice cream which means avoiding a big mess on hot SoCal days.
New food items that sound interesting are chocolate dipped banana with peanut butter, nuts all wrapped in bacon! I’m not sure that I want all that on my frozen banana but I kinda sorta want to try it. Chicken Charlie introduced two new items this year, Deep Fried Doritos and Deep Fried Chicken Skin! I’m intrigued but I might have to leave those two for other daring fairgoers!
Make sure to keep an eye for the OC Fair Foodies! We ran into Scoop and Cornelius outside of the Explorium Kids tent. It’s a fun photo opp for the kids!
