3 is the magic number! Spider-Man: No Way Home, the 3rd installment in the Tom Holland Spidey-era, is an AMAZING delight and electric addition to MCU canon. I don’t think I have seen or heard fans so excited for an upcoming Marvel movie! The anticipation has been overwhelming and I am excited the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home is finally swinging into theaters on December 17th!
Spider-Man: No Way Home begins right where we left off in Spider-Man: Homecoming. At the same time, Spider-Man is blamed for Mysterio’s death, the world witnesses as Spider-Man is unmasked as Peter Parker. J. Jonah Jameson’s and his Daily Bugle network take immense pleasure in broadcasting the news and label Peter Parker/Spider-Man a “criminal, a miscreant, a masked marauder, a menace!” As the crowds recognize MJ, Peter escapes with MJ wrapped around him and they swing through the city to somewhere safe to make sense of what happened and what they can do to fix this situation.
The main arc of the story has been public for a while- Peter seeks the help of Dr. Strange to cast a spell that makes everyone forget Peter Parker is Spider-Man in order for his friends and family to regain some normalcy in their lives as well as let Peter continue to lead his double life. As we saw in the trailers, Peter does a very good job of mucking up the spell causing Dr. Strange to tear open a hole in the Multiverse where the most powerful villains of Spider-man show up in our current Spiderverse. From the start, it is complete and total chaos! Who are these monsters and why don’t they recognize our Peter Parker?! Will Peter find out what it takes to truly be “Spider-Man”?!
It would be too easy to spoil the rest of the movie so I will say that your Spider-senses have definitely been tingling for the right reasons! BUT, don’t be caught in a web of assumptions. The trailers do a spectacular job of creating some misdirection and you can’t always believe the “Insider sources”!
Special effects and CGI in Marvel movies continue to evolve and showcase some of the most eye-catching and satisfying visuals. Spider-Man’s various costumes are so beautifully detailed and textured. Each fight scene and ensuing destruction are so layered and detailed that as cartoonish and over-the-top as it might be, they have an added sense of realism. The sound design and soundtrack provide the most ear-popping and seat-shaking good time you can have at a Marvel movie. See it in IMAX if you have the chance!
I love the casting for all the Spider-Man movies and I am happy to see Willem Defoe’s Green Goblin, Alfred Molina’s Doc Oc and Jamie Foxx’s Electro in action again. Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are friendship trifecta and they have some of the most endearing chemistry. Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May and Jon Favreu’s Happy running joke of a relationship also helps us focus on someone other than Peter and MJ!
Marvel movies always have some appropriated “fan service” but this time your mind will be blown and it will take an arc reactor to get your heart started again after the mind-boggling action and fight sequences as well as the painful emotion and consequences that follow.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is another huge hit and a showcase for some of the most talented character actors in the world. The buildup of excitement and emotion you have as you anticipate watching the movie will only be tripled in scale upon viewing. There is so much that will be happening in the next phase of the MCU and Spider-Man: No Way Home is a kick-off to the amazing Multiverse phenomena.
