Baymax, everyone’s favorite marshmallow huggable waddling healthcare robot, is back. And he’s more determined to help the people of San Fransokyo, even if they don’t actually need it. In celebration of National Streaming Day, Disney+ has released a new trailer and key art for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Baymax!”
Set after the events of “Big Hero 6,” “Baymax!” follows the adventures of the titular healthcare robot (Scott Adsit) who sets out to do what he was programed to do, help others. And the trailer gives us a small glimpse of what Baymax’s life would be like as he searches, scans, and assists those who he believes are in need of help. Of course, he hasn’t quite grasp the concept of boundaries yet has he scans those who don’t want to be scanned, tries to wrangle up a stray antisocial cat, and tries to run the café down stairs when Hiro’s (Ryan Potter) aunt Cass (Maya Rudolph) gets a mild injury.
Given how the film ended, it makes sense to see Baymax venture outside of that bubble he’s so accustomed to at home and explore more of San Fransokyo on his own. Of course, this would lead up to all sorts of unintentional hilarity that stems from his nonstop need to provide the best healthcare. If only we could have a healthcare system that treated us with even a small sliver of that empathy. Anyways, the trailer hints at the same kind of humor but probably with fewer dangers now that there aren’t any villains stealing other people’s tech.
“I thought it would be fun to do a Disney+ series with Baymax interacting with normal folks,” said series creator Don Hall, who helmed 2014’s Oscar®-winning film “Big Hero 6.” “In each of our six episodes, Baymax just wants to help someone—and a lot of times they don’t want to be helped. He sets out to fix a physical issue that he’s identified, and in the process, gets to a deeper, more emotional place and can be almost transformative in that role.”
Here’s the official plot synopsis for “Baymax!:”
The all-new series of healthcare capers returns to the fantastical city of San Fransokyo where the affable, inflatable, inimitable healthcare companion robot, Baymax, sets out to do what he was programmed to do: help others.
As aforementioned, Adsit, Potter, and Rudolph reprise their roles of Baymax, Hiro, and Aunt Cass, respectively. They will be joined by Emily Kuroda, Lilimar, Zeno Robinson and Jaboukie Young-White.
