Wines by Wives is a Celebrity Wine Club partnership between Vicki Gunvalson and Tamara Barney, two of The Real Housewives of the OC. Being someone who enjoys an occasional glass of wine, but not familiar enough to know what’s what, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to try a few new wines without picking them solely on cute names or labels. Wines by Wives gives members the chance to try two wines recommended by Vicki and Tamara – where you have the choice of two reds, two whites, or one of each. I opted for one of each and received a Gabriella Pinot Grigio 2010 and Gabriella Chianti 2009. The Pinot Grigio was a very crisp and dry white, and it matched well with grilled chicken and veggies. The Chianti was lighter red than some of the more aged wines, but the dry, fruity taste was fantastic with Greek keftedes (lamb meatballs with mint).
One aspect of Wines by Wives that makes it a truly worth-while club is the fact that each celebrity gives back to those in need. When people join the club, a portion of the member’s initial order is given to a charity. Vicki has chosen Women Shelter of Long Beach, for families of domestic abuse. WSLB provides a shelter, hotline, counseling, legal and health advocacy and is such an important first step for many people facing abuse. Tamra’s choice of Living Beyond Breast Cancer is an outstanding resource for women affected by breast cancer, at every step in their journey. LBBC helps women to live their lives to the fullest, each and every day.
