Sometimes it is easy to forget as we shop for our kids’ school needs that there are millions of children who can’t afford the basic school necessities. I admit I am guilty of it. It is easy to take things for granted. This new company called Schoolbags for Kids really made me think about it. Schoolbags for Kids was created with the motto “One here. One there.” For each schoolbag purchased they will give another schoolbag (filled with supplies) to a child in need.
The company was started after a 4 month trip around the world by Luis Garcia. He had spent years as a creative director and packaging designer for many of the worlds most successful global beauty and fragrance companies. He had decided that he wanted to do something more meaningful. After volunteering in schools and orphanges in some of the worlds poorest countries he saw the same struggle for basic everyday needs. He knew he wanted to help these children. How were these children going to learn if they didn’t even have pencils or paper?
Garcia and his long time business partner ,Kalon Guitierrez, combined their years of branding and design experience to create the Schoolbags For Kids company. The company launched this year with it’s signature collection, which features a unique horizontal backpack design that keeps supplies in easy reach. There are five exterior pockets for things like lunch money and water bottles. There is even an id holder. You can print your child’s id through Schoolbags for Kids Website. The durable, water resistant fabric is made to last. It comes in six color combinations for boys and girls and retails for $54.99. This may be a bit more than you normally pay for a backpack but I promise the style, quality and the fact that you are helping out a child in need make it worth it!
The donated bags are filled with school supplies and are bright yellow. Yellow is the international color of caution and many of these children walk miles to school, along busy roads and highways. So far this year bags have been donated to children in India, Thailand and Belize!
We were sent a school bag to test out. I have to say I was instantly impressed by the stylish color combination of pink and red as well as the high quality materials. This bag will surely last for many school years! The horizontal shape makes it easier to find things without having to constantly dig to the bottom of your bag and the straps across the chest ensure comfort while carrying all your supplies! The bag is perfect for all ages. Although it was a little bigger than most preschool sized backpacks my 3 year old was still able to comfortably carry it with the chest strap secured. I also had my 16 year old daughter try it out and she remarked on the comfort of it compared to some other backpacks she has used. I was happy to tell them about the great mission behind the company. Sometimes it easy for kids (and adults) to forget how lucky we are. By explaining that each time one of these bags is purchased another less fortunate child is benefiting is a great lesson for kids learn.
You can purchase School Bags for Kids on their website. They are currently working on new collections and have many new products in development. I for one will be watching for more from them. Education is something that all children deserve and what a great way to contribute to helping less fortunate kids. To stay up to date on this amazing company like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

Very cute bags. I like how they have a larger opening for getting things in and out.
