The story of two unlikely friends, a boy named Billy Broccoli and a teen ghost named Hoover Porterhouse, Ghost Buddy – Mind If I Read Your Mind? is the second in the series of books by actor, producer and director Henry Winkler and writer Lin Oliver. It follows Ghost Buddy – Zero to Hero where Billy adjusts to a new school, his new blended family and an unusual roommate. Both books are aimed at 8-12 year olds. My preteen readers declared the books “creative and exciting”.
In the new book, Billy Broccoli is sure he’ll win his middle school’s Speak Out Challenge, proposing a demonstration on mind reading (courtesy of his ghostly pal). But when Billy starts spending more time with his living friends than he does with Hoover, jealousy rears its ugly head and Hoover decides he might just vanish, leaving Billy in the lurch.
Both books are easy, fun reading and promote the value of friendship and deal with bullying – good messages to enforce this time of year with school approaching.
