Welcome to the fourth part of
our ”Plush With A Purpose” roundup:
Feelings, Nothing More Than Feelings
Is your child going through the terrible twos or threes? It’s tough when children do not know how to explain themselves and haven’t learned to communicate effectively. There’s so much going on in a young child’s mind. Emotions can be confusing and sometimes unmanageable. We encourage Teagan to discuss her feelings but some kids her age are impulsive and are quick to cry or throw tantrums. Conversations, patience and reassurance are key. Plus, a lot of role-playing to help discover what to do when you feel a certain way. We’re lucky that we came across Kimochis! They are the fourth company in our Plush With a Purpose roundup. Kimochis is a “feeling toy” that encourages kids and parents to address feelings.
These plush toys are more than a cute face. Kimochis means “feeling” in Japanese. They all have special feelings inside. Currently there are four Kimochis available: Huggtopus, Cloud, Bug and Cat. Each Kimochi comes with three emotion pillows and a guide that includes lessons on how to use them. The pillows are double sided. One side has the word and the other side has a facial expression to match the word. Other emotions are available for purchase in sets of 12 ($12). Are you a handy mom or dad? Maybe you could make some emotion pillows of your own.
ThatsITmommy received the Kimochi Bug. This bug is really smart but is afraid of change. His emotions are Happy, Brave and Left Out. The Bug is well made and has a smooth velvety surface. He’s also a nice size for hugs from little hands and arms. Izzy tested out Bug and she was able to use and understand the emotions that are stored in Bug’s belly. Izzy sought out Happy since that that was the emotion she was feeling. Izzy and her parents are still working on Brave and Left Out. This toy can be used in stages as Izzy’s vocabulary strengthens and her awareness of feelings grows. Izzy and her parents can turn to Bug if they need some guidance. And of course Izzy can play and cuddle with him every day!
Kimochis will benefit not only the child but also the parent! Great communication starts from home and should be guided from an early age. Don’t be afraid to talk to your children. I always get a better reaction when I get down to Teagan’s level to talk to her about the way she feels. Don’t get me wrong I get frustrated but the results aren’t pretty and unproductive if we’re both upset. Thankfully there are amazing people with innovative ideas that can help us through tough phases with our kids. Stop by kimochi.com. There’s a great section for parents that offers role-play tips and practice skills. You can also learn about all the characters, Kimochis philosophy and the team behind it all.
Stayed tuned for their newest Kimochis member. Lovey Dove! She looks so sweet! Komichis and Mixed Feelings Packs can be purchased at their online store. A wonderful gift for any child.

i like cloud- Kimochis means feelings in japanese
mverno@roadrunner.com
i visited the site and learned that this toy is used for kids to express themselves. I know my niece is having difficulty expressing herself every though she knows tons of words, instead of using them she pitches a fit -this would be great in helping her communicate and put her thoughts together. I think the cutest one is Cloud and Bug but the most appropriate one for her would be the Huggtopus!

My favorite is Cloud. I learned that the team of 5 who thought of Kimochis wanted to help kids to be better communicators and express their feelings. They’ve created a way to promote toys and stories that kids cn relate to.

I learned about the 3 keys to communication with your child. My favorite is cat!
I have never seen children’s dolls that foster communication with the child. These are perfect for my 4 1/2 year old niece. I think she could really benefit from the lessons cat can give, about bossyness.

I read that using these characters kids can get in touch with their own emotions in a fun way I like cat
These are so incredibly cute! So glad I stumbled on to your giveaway. I’m in love with all the characters but would have a hard time choosing between Bug & Cloud. I enjoyed reading about ways to deal with children’s behaviors and look forward to using the advice on being cooperative on my 4 year old tomorrow. Instead of getting frustrated when he refuses to cooperate, I’ll try something like, Aww, that doesn’t sound like the cooperative boy I know – let me ask you again so you can say Sure Mom I’d love to help.
We practice a lot of this at home already – after my kids come out of time out. They have to say My Name is …. and I’m a Good Boy/Girl!
We’re glad you stumbled across us too! Practice is key! BTW, cute site!
My favorite is “Cat”.
I learned that (just like my daughter) there’s no stopping Cat when she makes up her mind. I also learned there’s 3 keys to Kimochis communication; Call one’s name & wait for eye contact before speaking, use a talking face & voice, and catch yourself when you slip up.

I love the fact that they have “guides” on the website to help parents discuss the different emotions and their impact. I also love the “Cat” Kimochi because my 3-year-old (just turned 3 today!! WOOT!) is a VERY bossy little lady … I always tell her when she is bossing her cousins, “You have to stop doing that or you won’t be able to make a lot of friends” .. BUT the Kimochi way IS much better! LOL!
