My preschool class celebrated what would be Dr. Seuss’s 110th birthday on Friday! Our very awesome friends at PBS Kids provided us with everything that would be needed to make this party rock. Once invitations were sent home, the kiddos could not stop talking about it! Friday couldn’t arrive soon enough for these very excited 4 year olds.
We kicked off our party with a circle time reading of Dr. Suess’s most popular book, The Cat in the Hat. We also had a discussion on the importance of reading and how lucky we were to have access to so many books. We talked about how there were some children who didn’t have books of their own. As a thank you to PBS Kids each child donated a book that will go to less fortunate children. They were so happy to be able to help.
We then moved over to our table for our daily name printing, which to the children’s surprise was going to be done on special Cat in the Hat paper with Dr. Seuss themed pencils.
Now we were really ready to step this party up a notch so pencils were put away and the table was set! We enjoyed cupcakes and ice-cream all while wearing our Cat in the Hat hats!
To burn off all of our sugary treats we played our very favorite game, Musical Chairs. After a couple of rounds we were ready to settle in and watch a sneak preview of some brand new PBS Kids “Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot about That” episodes, which will premier on Monday!
“Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Cat-ebration” kicks off on Monday, March 3, with the debut of a one-hour THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THAT! special. New half-hour episodes also premiere on Tuesday, March 4, and Wednesday, March 5. The new episodes follow the Cat, Nick and Sally as they explore a variety of animal attributes: from the benefits of crickets’ chirps and birds’ feathers, to the mimic octopus’ remarkable ability to imitate other sea creatures. Viewers also learn how glass is made, how multi-legged creatures walk and how cotton is spun into fabric.
As part of the “Cat-ebration,” PBS KIDS has also launched a new, mobile-friendly THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THAT! game: “Marbleous Marvel Coaster.” Available at pbskids.org/catinthehat, “Marbleous Marvel Coaste” allows kids to create their own Seussian rollercoasters using open-ended play and engineering skills. Check out PBSKids.ORG for more fun Cat in the Hat games and activities!
