All of the nominations for the 96th Academy Awards were announced this morning. As expected, “Oppenheimer,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Barbie,” “American Fiction,” and “Poor Things” earned multiple awards.
Christopher Nolan’s epic biopic “Oppenheimer” leads with 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Nolan for Best Director, and Cillian Murphy for Best Actor, while “Poor Things” is not too far behind with 11 nominations, also for Best Picture as well as Yorgos Lanthimos for Best Director and Emma Stone for Best Actress.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” earned 10 nominations including Best Picture, and Robert De Niro for Best Supporting Actor and Lily Gladstone for Best Actress. Barbie got eight nominations for Best Picture and two for Best Original Song – “I’m Just Ken” and “What Was I Made For.” America Ferrera earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination.
The four films will compete against “American Fiction,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “The Holdovers,” “Maestro,” “Past Lives” and “The Zone of Interest.” “Mastero” ended up with seven nominations, while American Fiction,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “The Holdovers,” and “The Zone of Interest” nabbed five nominations.
Other things to note are that John Williams has earned his 54th Oscar nomination for his work on “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” while Steven Spielberg got his 13th nomination, this time as a producer for “Maestro.”
“The Boy and The Heron,” “Elemental,” “Nimora” “Robot Dreams” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” were among the animated features earning a nomination for “Best Animated Feature.”
