Did you catch the premiere of Mistresses on ABC last week? Eight months have passed since the finale of season 1 and man, was this episode hot! Can you believe that Savi left Harry for Dom? And did you see the new guy in April’s life! Wowza! The women are back, quickly putting their lives together after some major upheavals, betrayal and drama. They look “amaze-balls” (quoting Josslyn here)! Also, I love watching to see what the ladies are wearing next. Did you know that the costume designer Roemehl Hawkins (read more about Roemehl here) created an impressive, 91 costume changes for the ladies last season?
Mistresses is loosely based on a UK BBC series of the same name. Our version doesn’t glorify homewrecking but showcases friendships between four women and their personal journeys as well as the consequences of their actions. I enjoy the show! I can’t wait for the next episode “Boundaries”, which airs tonight at 10:00 PM PST. From the teasers I gather that Savi is keeping an eye on her man Dom, as the new office girl settles in!
And speaking of their office, I had the exclusive experience of walking on a few of the Mistresses sets! What was it like being in Savi’s kitchen? April’s shop? Plus Harry’s new place? Seriously cool! April’s shop was beautiful! The set decorators did a wonderful job with bringing the living spaces to life. Here are a few images from our tour. Savi’s kitchen is my dream! We also got a peek at the law offices where Dom and Savi first hooked up.
Not only did we get to visit soundstages from the show but we traveled to a nearby location shoot for some behind-the-scenes 411. We were surprised with a meet-and-greet with Joss (Jes Macallan) and hunky Justin Hartley who plays the new character Scott for eight episodes this season. Jes is a doll in person and I recognized Justin from one of my favorite soaps Passions!
We also chatted with location manager Brad Warden, who explained the logistics of scouting a house, “They drive around neighborhoods, knock on doors and make contacts with people and ask them if they are interested. They scout, take pictures of the exterior and interior or whatever they are required from the trip.” The production designer and the director of the show have the final say on the location. Brad also shared a little insider filming trick, “If they want to shoot night in the daytime, they will cover windows or tape the entire house, then add lights to the inside of the tenting to make it look like it’s night time.” Other challenges for filming are neighbors who might not like the frequency of taping or background noise such as gardeners with leaf blowers or even barking dogs.
Wow! What a way to wrap-up our Mistresses experience! Now, if I could only meet Alyssa Milano who plays Savi! Congrats to her on baby #2 and I can’t wait to watch episode 2!!
