Beauty and the Beast Trailer
Disney has released their second trailer for Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson (Harry Potter franchise) as Belle, and Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) as the Beast. The film is live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1991 animated classic of the same name. These live-action reimaginings are both a commercial and critical success for the studio, who have proven that films like Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book works on many levels.
The trailer reenacts many iconic scenes from its animated predecessor in a live-action form. Sure the magic from the animated version is splendid and timeless, but one can’t help but feel enchanted because the film feels real, almost as if the audience can put themselves in Beast’s castle and be drawn to the spell of the magical rose.
Aside from seeing many iconic scenes in a live-action form, the trailer is really focused on making the castle feel alive. Dazzling shots of both the corridors, library, and the recognizable dance hall will take your breath away, while shots of the outside reveal a different kind of beauty.
It’s easy to criticize how Disney just turns their animated films into live-action ones, but in my opinion getting the right talent and creative team together will surely get audiences rolling into theaters. And they really got the right people to work on “Beauty and the Beast.” Directed by Bill Condon (“Dreamgirls”), the humans of the film stars Luke Evans as arrogant muscle-man Gaston; Josh Gad as Lefou; Gaston’s flunkie; Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s father. With castle residents now magically turned household objects starring Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the suave candelabra; Ian McKellenas Cogsworth, the punctual cloack, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, the motherly teapot; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, a featherduster; Audra McDonald as Madame Garderobe, a walking wardrobe; and Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, a neurotic pianist and new character created for this movie.
Beauty and the Beast opens in theaters on March 17, 2017.
