Critics got their first look at Marvel Studios’ “Loki,” which makes its debut this Wednesday exclusively on Disney+, and based on their reactions, the show about the god of mischief meets or exceeds their expectations. Of course, it had a very high bar to reach considering how well “WandaVision” and “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” were received. But the chance to see Tom Hiddleston take center stage of his own limited series was something fans have been dying to see for a very long time.
Based on some of the reactions, critics love the strange and unique tone of the show and how it fully embraces Loki’s charming and devious personality. Owen Wilson also gets some praise for bringing some of his energy to the show as Mobius matches wits with Loki, who is also ten steps ahead of everyone despite being restrained and stripped of his powers.
Ultimately, it is up to the audience to decide whether or not “Loki” lives up to their expectations. But if you have been following the MCU for as long as any Marvel Studios fan has, then you know that “Loki” is a nice change of pace for the trickster who is forced to confront his past and see the outcome of his mischief while also being is charming and playfully devious self.
Check out some of the critics’ reactions below.
#Loki is both a mature take on the character, who does serious self-reflection, and a wacky time traveling game of cat & mouse. It’s a nice change of pace to see Loki out of place while also still being himself. Also brace yourself for some fun unexpected twists. #LokiWednesdays pic.twitter.com/wCj6UCGK8x

Got to watch the first two episodes of #Loki and omg… it’s so good. Tom Hiddleston is so bloody brilliant. It will also leave you questioning everything you know about the MCU. I had to have a white board to write down my thoughts/theories. It’s a fun ride. #LokiWednesdays pic.twitter.com/DNSo1AZjHv

I got a chance to see the first two episodes of #Loki and I loved it! Weird, and playful, but also surprisingly dark and heartfelt. The fantastic world-building with the TVA lands fully-formed, and Tom Hiddleston gets to dig deeper on one of the MCU’s most interesting characters. pic.twitter.com/c2oDKZfAmt

Loki! WOW! The 1st episode made me cry & the 2nd made me cheer! What a show! Loving the dynamic between Owen Wilson & Tom Hiddleston. They’re HILARIOUS together! Gugu Mbatha-Raw is FIERCE! Truly the show #Loki fans NEEDED! Can’t WAIT to see how it ties into the rest of the MCU! pic.twitter.com/poT0azkWro

#Loki slaps hard which should come as no surprise from the God of Mischief. It’s a chaotic labyrinth through time filled w/ surprises at every turn. The chemistry btwn Hiddleston & Wilson is a match made in Asgard allowing for a unique but untrustworthy friendship to unfold. pic.twitter.com/RVslIgYB8w

WOW! #LOKI may just be the BEST series of the #MCU so far. With a charismatic performance from Tom Hiddleston, remarkably clever writing, and stunning visual craftsmanship brought together by sharp direction, it results in Marvel’s most ambitious project yet! A MUST WATCH! pic.twitter.com/tcQsEYbKXJ

The first 2 eps of #Loki are catnip for Marvel fans. Dense on world-building, callbacks & mystery. Hiddleston is on fire. The new characters rule & there’s A TON to unpack & unravel.
It’s a little light on action (so far) but I didn’t care. I fell hard for this new Marvel world. pic.twitter.com/nVR9MQgn7W

Screened two episodes of @LokiOfficial. Loki is his usual awesome and snarky self.
Marvel definitely set the stage for #Loki and the multiverse with witty writing and mountains of mischief.
Watch the first episode on June 9th! pic.twitter.com/opJalaPohb
