We attended a media event for editorial purposes.
I Love Scary Movies is a fun and frightening art and interactive photo-op pop-up by creator Maximillian featuring many beloved blood curdling films. Visitors can visit scenes inspired by horror hits like “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, “The Shining”, “IT”, and “Beetlejuice” and become part of their twisted worlds.
Fans of the previous installation can rejoice, the ghoulish glamour and horror is back at a new haunt to fright and delight again. The new location at the HD Buttercup Building in LA features a re-mix of the highly popular interactive exhibits from its last run as well as a brand new “Friday the 13th” exhibit.
One of my favorite experiences was the Friday the 13th area. The inventiveness of the way the imagery from the familiar franchise is presented in a fresh new way reaffirms that this indeed an art installation as much as it is a way take fun photos of things we like. The display invites visitors to see the details and appreciate the experience up close and in person.
If you visit Camp Crystal Lake, beware, not everything is as it seems. The glass smooth waters can cut like a knife if you get too close and under the full moon a haunting face glistens beneath its mask.
There are lots of great details for mega fans and the novice horror dabblers alike to enjoy. Visitors can become some of their favorite icons, take a trike ride down the halls of the Overlook Hotel, try to escape from a room full of terrifying clowns, add their fears to a wall and get a very special memento, and haunt a grave, if only for a spell.
This exhibit is also truly interactive, you can cross and hypnotizing carnival tunnel that will set your head spinning, doors will clatter and slam, walls will come to life, unexpected bursts and surprises abound.
If you’ve been dying to get a glimpse of your own funeral or catch up on some reading with the Handbook for the Recently Deceased you are in luck. But your luck may run thin if you don’t get tickets early, the previous run sold out, so hurry down before this experience passes on.
I Like Scary Movies opens for a limited encore engagement in downtown Los Angeles on from September 20th through November 17th. Tickets and information are available at ILikeScaryMoviesExperience.com.
