Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I am sitting in front of the hottest stars in Hollywood to talk about their newest passion projects. It doesn’t feel real! I was speechless when I attended the press junket for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014. I instantly fell in love with the script, the action, the characters as well as the music. Hearing the cast talk about their favorite songs from the film was a blast. Three years later we (finally) get a sequel. I went into the screening for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol with high expectations. The first film was brilliant that this one had a lot to live up to! Now, here I was again, pinching myself, sitting in front of the stars of the film. It’s absolutely surreal. One panel included a charming Chris Pratt who sat next to Hollywood icon Kurt Russell. Dave Bautista was on the second panel and seemed shy and almost nervous under the bright spot lights. Sylvester Stallone cracked jokes. I didn’t want it to end…
Each guest was unique and fun. I can’t wait to see them team-up for the third Guardians movie but until then, here are fun quotes from the first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 panel which included Chris Pratt (“Peter Quill / Star-Lord”), Kurt Russell (“Ego”), Michael Rooker (“Yondu”), Elizabeth Debicki (“Ayesha”), Director James Gunn and Producer Kevin Feige.
I feel like that always. I never feel like I belong. I feel like Rocket, you know. So I think that that, you know, that is for me it’s a very personal film. I have always felt like I didn’t belong. And fortunately I have some people around me who maybe helped me feel like I’m not completely alone in the world, and just as importantly, I think I grew up with some art, some movies, you know, by people like, you know, everybody from David Cronenberg to Steven Spielberg, movies where an outcast didn’t feel so alone or music by Alice Cooper, The Clash, for outcasts. Or maybe I was this little kid in Manchester, Missouri who felt like he was completely alienated from all his peers, and by listening and, you know, hearing music and watching movies, I felt a little bit less alone, and I hope that that’s what the Guardians does for people. It’s a movie about outcasts for outcasts. And there’s people all over the world that it t – James Gunn
I definitely feel I brought, not so much in my relationship as a child to a parent, but as a parent to a child I got that more with Baby Groot. With the character of Groot who is this vulnerable, very lifelike and adorable, but vulnerable little guy, you know, when he climbs up on Quill’s lap in the end and asks for the music and I’m listening to the song and I’m thinking about, I’m reflecting upon the relationship I had with the man who raised me, it’s in that moment I realize that I’ve now entered the chapter in my life where I’m gonna be the man who’s raising somebody. – Chris Pratt
Yeah, I’m the new member of the cast. Well, James convinced me obviously. He’s extremely persuasive, not that I needed convincing. And I mean, initiation? My first day on set was when we were shooting in the throne room, and I was obviously terrified of playing this extremely powerful creature. And, which is a great juxtaposition in your head, and I remember so sitting up on the throne for a long time and all the Guardians were in front of me. It was so intimidating, and it was about two hours before we spoke to each other, I think. And they all came up in this line to sort of come and say hello. And I was like, please come and say hello to me! – Elizabeth Debicki
The truth is that when I read the script I wanted to make sure I was kind of understanding it correctly and I hadn’t seen the first movie. I’m not much of a moviegoer, so. I knew that everybody loved it, though. And I also knew that everybody all of a sudden, one day I was doing Hateful Eight stuff like this, and all of a sudden, boom, boom, boom, boom, my phone and the people around me are saying, are you gonna do, oh that’s great, are you gonna be Star Lord’s dad? Are you gonna be Peter Quill’s father and are you gonna do Guardians of the Galaxy and I, I just was like, guys, I don’t really know what they’re talking about. And I saw the movie and when I saw the movie, I immediately started getting it. I also immediately started wanting to do it. – Kurt Russell
I think, it’s not too hard to keep a straight face, especially when you’re having a scene with Chris Pratt. He’s not very funny. You know, he’s adorable and all this stuff, and he does say some interesting things every now and then, but you know, my comedy is more… His, he’s so high-brow compared to my comedy. – Michael Rooker
Yeah, they’re definitely the original Guardians. That was the fun of it, and when James had the idea to do more with the Yondu character who was also an original Guardians, the notion that he had a team once like Peter does now, that it’d be fun to see them. And he’s definitely Charlie 27. Where we see them in the future, time will tell. – Kevin Feige
