Kait Walsh, the facilitator of the Elysian Valley Arts Collective, is hosting a series of online family art workshops on Zoom. The first of three free online workshops is available on Saturday, Aug. 29.
The free workshops are Aug. 29, Sept. 12 and Sept. 19 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and for ages 3 and up.
The first workshop is Family Sketch Play. Students are given verbal prompts to sketch and create unique pieces. The materials needed are paper, pens, pencils and coloring materials.
The second workshop is Family Collage Play. Students will create authentic art through activities designed to encourage innovation and experimentation.
The materials needed are paper, aluminum, wrapping paper, grocery bags, pens, pencils, coloring materials, scissors, tape or glue.
The third workshop is Family Mixed Media Play. This workshop combines the sketch and collage play programs. It guides students to create art using different mediums and encourages family collaboration.
The materials needed are varieties of paper, pens, pencils, coloring materials, scissors, tape or glue.
Walsh, the instructor, is an author and illustrator of children’s books, artist and art educator. She was born and raised in Los Angeles and taught 5 and 6-year-olds for a decade. Frogtown 2020 is a virtual initiative launched in April 2020 by The Elysian Valley Arts Collective, producers of the biennial Frogtown Artwalk. The initiative, which includes an online art gallery, art challenges, artist spotlights and interviews, editorial stories about residents, artists and businesses in Elysian Valley is in response to the postponement of the 2020 Frogtown Artwalk due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and Safer-at-Home Order. The initiative will continue throughout 2020. EVAC will be presenting a virtual Frogtown Artwalk in October 2020. Details to come.
