Disney has released a new “Peter Pan & Wendy” trailer. Directed by David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon), the film is a live-action adaptation of the studio’s animated classic, which is based on the J. M. Barrie novel.
Of course, Disney has been at reimagining their animated classics for quite sometime, with some of their films being commerical and critical hits, while others flay. So it’s easy to understand where the complaints that there are no original stories in films come from. It’s especially tiresome when these films lean too far into the CGI or not distancing itself from what it is based on.
So Lowery’s take on the animated film differs as it looks like its distancing itself as much as it can from the tools that makes the surrounding world overly fake. What’s more, the film doesn’t look like its reinventing the story about a girl who follows a boy into Neverland. OF course, there are some visual nods that remind us about the animated film that its based on like Nana the dog, Michael’s stuffed bear, and John’s top hat. And then there’s that undeniably unforgettable ticking of the clock that can only come from Captain Hook’s greatest bestial nemesis: Crocodile
The film stars Jude Law (“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore”), Alexander Molony (“The Reluctant Landlord”), Ever Anderson (“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter”), Yara Shahidi (“Grown-ish”), Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Joshua Pickering (“A Discovery of Witches”), Jacobi Jupe, Molly Parker (“House of Cards”), Alan Tudyk (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”), and Jim Gaffigan (“The Jim Gaffigan Show”). “Peter Pan and Wendy” is directed by David Lowery from a screenplay by David Lowery & Toby Halbrooks (“The Green Knight”) based on the novel by J. M. Barrie and the animated film “Peter Pan.” The producer is Jim Whitaker (“Pete’s Dragon”), with Adam Borba (“A Wrinkle in Time”), Thomas M. Hammel (“Thor: Ragnarok”), and Toby Halbrooks serving as executive producers.

“Peter Pan & Wendy” introduces Wendy Darling, a young girl afraid to leave her childhood home behind, who meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up.
