Lightyear and Turning Red
Disney gave us a preview of their upcoming Pixar slate, which looks very promising, especially if you are a fan of the “Toy Story” franchise. That’s because the animation studio announced they would be releasing “Lightyear,” a film that will explore the origins of real-life Lightyear that inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy. While Tim Allen has voiced the toy for the past 25 years, the real-life Lightyear will be voiced by none other than Chris Evans, who has some familiarity with being a hero.
The teaser clip gave us a sample of what’s to come from the studio at warp speed, and while it is nearly gone in a blink of an eye, a follow-up tweet teased what the real-life Lightyear looks like, with the strapping young jawline.

But Pixar is so much more than just Toy Story sequels and spinoffs(?), they also have original stories to tell. And Turning Red will be their latest original feature from Bao director Domee Shi. The film won’t be too far off its fantastical vibes as it will follow Mei, a young girl is experiencing the awkwardness of being a teenager, and when she gets too excited, she becomes a giant red panda. Sounds like another superhero who has problems handling their emotions. But I suspect this will be something less green and dramatic as a Marvel Studios film.
Here’s the official tweet that gives us a small sample of the story:
Director of the Academy Award-winning short Bao, Domee Shi, brings us Turning Red. Meet Mei: she experiences the awkwardness of being a teenager, with an added twist: when she gets too excited, she transforms into a giant red panda. Just by looking at the art and the characters, I already feel like it’s something I am going to really love. And let’s face it, Pixar hardly disappoints.
