Disney & Pixar hosted this experience. Opinions are my own.
In my opinion, The Lion King’s villain Scar is one of Disney’s best. He’s a ruthless murderer and will stop at nothing to rule the Pride Lands. Artist Andreas Deja is responsible for animating the despicable lion as well as a few other iconic Disney villains. You might have heard of Gaston and Jafar? They are all so good at being bad! To celebrate the powerful work of Andreas Deja, The Walt Disney Family Museum is showcasing some of his work in the Deja View: The Art of Andreas Deja exhibit. The exhibit runs through October 9th and includes original pieces of work and a beautiful display of drawings of Scar from The Lion King.
Deja was accepted into a training program at the Walt Disney animation Studios in 1980. He passed the program and began working on actual productions. He worked on The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast as well as Roger Rabbit. In 1997, he was asked to work on Hercules but this time around he was to design the hero instead of the villain. I wonder which one he had more fun designing?!
The Disney artwork in the exhibit include watercolors, charcoal, ink and paper, sculpture and more. Check out these drawings of Scar!
And this beautiful watercolor of Simba and Mufasa.
If you are a fan of Disney and in particular, The Lion King, then make sure to visit the museum before the exhibit ends. Kids will enjoy peering through the Jafar Zoetropia!
The Walt Disney Family Museum is also displaying works from Deja’s current independent project called Mushka, features a young girl and her tiger, “A story of love and sacrifice set in Russia”. The drawings are lovely!
