Ready for your deep fried awesomeness, fun rides, games and huge smiles? The OC Fair is in town through August 11 and this year’s theme is Come and Get IT! Our family headed to Costa Mesa for our annual visit and like always, we had a blast! Fairgoers are greeted with the delicious aroma of BBQ and a grand view of the carnival rides. Thank you to OC Fair for hosting us!
Here are a few of our favorites from our day:
Centennial Farm is routinely our first and last stop of the day. The farm animals are a favorite of my daughters. Who can resist adorable baby chickens? Now that my daughter is getting older our visits go beyond the “adorable” factor. She was interested in learning more about the animals and asked questions about the Watsui Cattle, Llamas and a few of the other livestock. We also spent more time this year wandering through the crops as she pointed out her favorite veggies. Who knew that Asparagus took 2-3 years to be ready to eat!
Every Friday from Noon-4pm fairgoers get a taste of what the OC Fair has to offer! During $2 Taste of Fair Food fairgoers get a sample taste of the offerings from select vendors. We sampled a slice from Ten Pound Bun, snacks from Tasti Chips, Mini corn cob from the Corn Shack corn, Pignotti’s Meatball Slider and Pulled Pork Sandwich from BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich. Sampling is an efficient way to try a variety of foods without over doing it.
My husband and I like head to the Visual Arts galleries. Photography, fine arts and woodworking are always a must see. The galleries showcase high quality, inspiring works of art and we appreciate the the work created by these young adults. This is a place to gather ideas for projects to do with your own kids. I also loved the mixed media entries.
The Hangar is a fun place to stop for free entertainment through the day. It’s also a good place to beat the heat and rest your feet! My daughter loves this huge space to dance to the music. Entertainment ranges from the best tribute bands to original rock and pop music. David Bowie, the Eagles and KISS are a few of the musicians that are paid tribute to this summer.
Lastly, the Family Fairway and Carnival sections are a must for our family. The fair wouldn’t be the same without a spin on a few carnival rides and the chance to win an oversized souvenir for our daughter. Check out the Minion that my husband won on the water pistol game. LOVE IT! The is always a good time for the kids. Children get to play in a huge sandbox, interact with amphibians from The Reptile Zoo and enjoy a family friendly magic show.
Our family day was a success and we plan to head back again before the fair ends. There’s just so much to see (and eat) that you can’t possibly do it all in one day. We were actually a lil too stuffed to try a deep fried treat this year but we did sneak in a chocolate covered banana sprinkled with nuts. Kinda healthy? =)
Download the OC Fair App to plan out your day. Fairgoers have access to everything that will help your day run smoothly. The Super Pass is convenient for families who live close by and want to take in the action all 23 days of the fair. Purchase the 2013 OC Fair Super pass at the The OC Fair & Event Center Box Office.
