It’s hard to believe that the finale to the Bill and Ted trilogy is coming. Their excellent adventures first started when Rufus (the late George Carlin) gave the two a time-traveling telephone booth, which they used to finish their high school history project. And when we last saw the titular pair, they were off on another time-traveling adventure to fight robot versions of themselves, while voyaging through heaven and hell.
And now, the first trailer for Bill and Ted Face the Music is here.
After 30 years, Bill and Ted are back, and they must save the world again. But they must fulfill their destiny, and “unite the world and save reality as we know it,” through one their one song.
The only problem is they haven’t written that song yet. So, Ted (Keanu Reeves) suggests they go to the future where they have written it. He then questions the ethics of obtaining that song from their future selves. But Bill (Alex Winters) doesn’t see it that way. “How is that stealing if we are stealing from ourselves,” he asks.
Reeves and Winters aren’t the only ones to return. William Sadler reprises his role as the Grim Reaper. And they will be joined by Brigette Lundy-Paine, who plays Billie “Little Bill” Logan, Ted’s daughter, and Samara Weaving, who plays Theodora” Little Ted” Preston, Bill’s daughter. Anthony Carrigan, Kid Cudi, Jillian Bell, Kristen Schaal, Holland Taylor, and Beck Bennett also appear.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for Bill and Ted Face The Music:
“The stakes are higher than ever for the time-traveling exploits of William “Bill” S. Preston Esq. and Theodore “Ted” Logan. Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it. Along the way, they will be helped by their daughters, a new batch of historical figures, and a few music legends – to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe.”
Bill and Ted Face the Music is written by original Bill and Ted scribes Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon. Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) directs. The film opens in theaters August 21, 2020.
