Thanks to Allegiant Air and the O’ahu Visitors Bureau, I was able to cross Hawaii off my bucket list this year! I was thrilled when I learned that I was selected to participate in Allegiant Air’s Blog Your Way To Hawaii contest. As a child, I dreamt about visiting these far-off, magical islands that are filled with tradition and songs accompanied by expressive hula dancers. I also pictured myself running along breathtaking, sandy beaches and eating a never ending supply of pineapples! And now I was on my way to live the dream on the island of O’ahu.
Allegiant Air is a Las Vegas-based company which offers low cost travel to world class destinations. The company presents competitive deals on flights, hotels and vacation packages to popular vacation spots all over the country. Southern California travelers will be happy to know that Allegiant offers direct flights from LAX to Honolulu. The rates are seriously low, allowing you to save money on all of the attractions that O’ahu has to offer!
Our flight to the island of O’ahu was comfortable and on time. Here are details on Allegiant Air’s flight to Hawaii:
A direct flight from LAX to Honolulu could cost you $150+ one way! Now that’s a steal especially in this day of inflated travel prices. Visit the calendar on their web site (www.allegiantair.com) to see all of the available flights traveling to Honolulu. There are usually 4 flights a week scheduled to Honolulu Airport.
On the plane the leather seats are stationary. In other words- they do not recline. I guess you will never have to dread the seat reclining in front of you- because it won’t! The seat does have a large headrest and cushion.
Passengers can select “Giant Seats” which offers first class comfort, are extra wide and have the most legroom in the cabin. There are also “Extra Legroom” seats which offers extra comfort. We sat in the Extra Legroom seats and believe me, this made our flight feel right!
You can select you seat at the time of reservation. I prefer this especially since my daughter enjoys the window seat. Selecting your seat at the airport can make any Mom or Dad anxious especially when you have multiple children! There is a fee for preselecting seats online.
Bring your own portable devices to watch a movie or listen to music on. There aren’t any inflight movies or stations!
There is a check in bag fee that varies depending on the weight of the bag. Passengers are allowed one carry on item. Check prices online while you book your flights.
Snacks and drinks can be purchased inflight from Allegiant’s accommodating, friendly and attentive flight attendants. I purchased the Wingz Kids Snack Pack for my daughter. It included cookies, crackers, along with a few other treats and the kicker- Allegiant wings! Do you remember proudly wearing wings when you were a kid? I loved it!
Upon landing at Honolulu airport, we were greeted with warm air, tropical scents and lush vegetation plus I will never forget that Aloha sign in the airport! The journey to Hawaii is 5.5 hrs and the return flight back to LAX is about 5 hours long. One tip, Honolulu airport does not sell gum. If you need it for your ears, I suggest purchasing it at LAX or at one of the many ABC Stores around the island.
To top off our Allegiant experience, my daughter met the pilot and checked out the cockpit after we landed back at LAX. I am so grateful that I was able to share this memorable experience with my daughter!
Visit Allegiant Air to see their deals. Fares may not be available on all flights and restrictions may apply! The airplanes offer very basic necessities to offer low rates. Make sure to research what services are offered for extra fees.
Stay tuned for our Hawaiin hotel experience with Aqua Pacific Monarch Hotel in Waikiki.
