Are you a fan of Wes Anderson’s unique style? Do you love his witty humor and eye-catching aesthetic? If so, you should definitely check out the Accidentally Wes Anderson: The Exhibition. The exhibit is located at the Santa Monica Museum on the 3rd Street Promenade. Accidentally Wes Anderson (AWA) started as an Instagram account in 2017, showcasing stunning travel adventures reminiscent of Wes Anderson films. The creators, Wally and Amanda Koval, have turned AWA into a community of explorers, with photographs from all over the world.
The exhibit, features photos from Wally Koval’s book also called Accidentally Wes Anderson. All of the images in the book were taken by AWA community members. The exhibit is made up of 7 rooms broken into categories such as Doors, Hotel, Los Angeles, and Transportation, providing a glimpse into the Wes Anderson aesthetic. Upon entering the exhibit, you’re transported to the lobby of the Grand Budapest Hotel with its bright red background and gold room keys. The immediate impact of Wes Anderson’s aesthetic is palpable in this setting. Every photo in the exhibit features a barcode to scan that allows you learn more about the location and the photographer behind the captivating shot. As a photographer myself, I appreciated the simplistic, symmetrical imagery, while my daughter, a Wes Anderson fan, enjoyed envisioning his films. Overall, we highly recommend visiting the exhibit to experience the charm and inspiration of Wes Anderson’s world. Guests can sit in the cinema or take a photo in the photo booth for a fee. My daughter even sent herself a digital postcard before we left.
Explorers, photographers, artists, and Wes Anderson fans must visit this exhibition. It’s important to note that while the exhibit doesn’t showcase Anderson’s films, the photography is inspired by his vision. The Kovals sought out locations that capture the essence of a Wes Anderson film.
The exhibit is calling for people to join the AWA community. Find the code within the exhibit for a chance to have your snapshot from everywhere in Los Angeles! Submissions could be featured in the exhibit in June. It’s a fantastic opportunity! The exhibit definitely inspired me to explore my neighborhood and capture Wes Anderson-esque scenes. It also sparked travel envy, making me yearn to see these incredible architectural wonders firsthand.
