Star Wars Celebration is happening right now and that means Disney is celebrating everything under the Lucasfilm two suns. Of course, attendees are getting their first looks at new shows and hearing the latest news on films. And fans got their first look at the new live-action “Ahsoka” trailer.
Played by Rosario Dawson, Ahoksa has already appeared in “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett,” which set the stage for her character’s solo act. But the character first appeared in Dave Filoni’s “The Clone Wars” animated series, where she was a young Jedi prodigy who eventually grew disillusioned by the Jedi order and left them while still continuing to fight the Empire. She would eventually pop up once more in “Star Wars Rebels.”
There are a few exciting things about the new “Ahsoka” trailer. First of which is that it brings the character back after a long hiatus. She hasn’t even appeared in new episodes of “The Mandalorian” yet. Presumably she is off doing her own thing. Second, the reappearances of multiple “Star Wars Rebels” characters ties all of Filoni’s shows together. Yes, we see the Phantom II fly-by. But in addition to Dawson, “Ahsoka” stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla. And we can’t forget about the Spectre’s loyal and cranky droid, Chopper.
In her previous appearances, Ahsoka has been investigating a reemerging threat in Thrawn, a powerful Empire commander thought to be defeated by a young Ezra Bridger in the final events of Star Wars Rebels. So it looks like stars are aligning for a major crossover event, which could mean that a Din Darjn cameo appearance is possible. Of course, we don’t know when that will happen.
The series is written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Karen Gilchrist is co-executive producer.
“Ahsoka” starts streaming exclusively on Disney+ on August 2023.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Set after the fall of the Empire, “Ahsoka” follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.
