It stands to reason that with any great television show, there will most likely be multiple seasons. But things run a little differently with Marvel Studios’ Disney+ shows. Because they are canonically a part of the MCU, a lot of the characters you will see in “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” won’t appear in just these streaming miniseries, but also films as well.
ThatsItLA joined their fellow bloggers and journalists for the global press conference for “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.” During that time, I was fortunate to ask about the possibility of it having multiple seasons since it pulls from buddy cop franchises like “Bad Boys,” “Lethal Weapon,” and “Rush Hour.” While Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, showrunner Skogland, head writer Malcolm Spellman, and stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan were tongue and cheek on who should have taken the question. Ultimately: Feige had this to say.
“It’s a funny question. And it’s one that we obviously get so much more in television because people expect it to to be like what people know before,” Feige said. “We really did approach it like we do the movies, which is we better make this great, or we won’t be able to do another one. If we were able to do another one.”
“There are certainly ideas. The slight difference, of course, is, as you’ve all heard me say and I think is becoming clear, with ‘WandaVision,’ that they really will go back and forth between the Disney+ and the Marvel Studios features,” Feige continued. “So, where characters show up and how sometimes we’ll be in a season two, and sometimes we’ll be in a feature, and then into an additional season. We’re just not going to say who does what, right, right this second.”
They are certainly playing it close to the vest. And that shouldn’t be surprising considering that’s Marvel Studios’ MO. So Feige doesn’t close the door on “Falcon and The Winter Soldier” being a one-off miniseries. That certainly won’t be the case as there is a chance they could appear in other films, and then they can jump back into a season two. But for right now, let’s just focus on what we are being given.
That being said, it will be fun to see where Sam (Mackie) and Bucky (Stan) go from here as they step out of Cap’s shadow and into a world that has completely changed since the undoing of the blip because there is a lot of emotional weight and traumas that the two titular characters will have to deal with as they are saving the world from a new terrorist organization called the Flagsmashers.
