The hills and the homes will be alive with “The Sound of Music” starting today.
The YouTube channel Time Out and The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization are hosting viewing parties for “The Sound of Music Live” as part of the The Show Must Go On program. It will stream for 48 hours starting at 5 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time today, June 26.
“The Sound of Music” production was broadcast on NBC in 2013 and featured seven-time Grammy-winner Carrie Underwood and “True Blood” star Stephen Moyer. Underwood played Maria, the young caretaker who falls in love with Captain von Trapp, played by Moyer, during World War II when the Nazis invaded Austria.
At the time, the NBC production of “The Sound of Music,” directed by Tony Award winner Rob Ashford and Emmy-nominee Beth McCarthy, was a ratings success reaching more than 42 million viewers. It is the most-watched live musical television event since the format was revived in 2013.
Executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (“Smash,” “Hairspray” and “Chicago”) brought the show based on the original Broadway stage production to television.
“The Sound of Music Live” features some of the most recognized songs in theater, including “The Sound of Music,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” “Edelweiss” and “Climb Every Mountain.”
