Look no further than Catalina Island for your next family getaway with affordable rates. The Catalina Boat House Hotel is a charming hotel just a block from the beach and easily walkable to shops and restaurants.
The hotel boasts a great history. Over 100 years ago, Captain Joseph McAfee sailed his beloved houseboat from Venice Beach to Santa Catalina Island. He purchased land with a view of the bay and hauled his houseboat up the hillside. Today the Captain’s houseboat is known as the Catalina Boat House Hotel.
We stayed in a mini suite with a jacuzzi tub on the top floor of the hotel. The simple, suite layout includes a kitchenette which we put to good use. A quick trip to a nearby Von’s Grocery store and we cooked meals in the room. The room’s accompanying deck provided us with amazing views. I definitely recommend requesting a room on the top floor!
The hotel offers several common areas that are fun to wander upon to grill on the house BBQs, eat at their picnic tables with Island views and settle into comfy patio chairs or swings for quiet reading time or sunset cocktails.
Catalina provides a much needed break from the daily grind. It’s an island with an old time charm and the relaxing, slow pace that will give you and your family the opportunity to focus on each other. Free Wi-Fi is available and the strongest in their main courtyard and reaches to most rooms. Another fun bonus perk is the hotel golf carts – the management will even come to pick you up upon arrival. Catalina Boat House Hotel also offers some pet friendly rooms.
* Note: The hotel’s website warns visitors that Catalina is in an extreme drought. Please visit their site for more reservations and hotel information. The Catalina Boat House Hotel is formerly known as the Catalina Beach House Hotel.
