The show is 120 minutes long with a 20 minute intermission. I loved the techniques that were used to portray the tornado. Also, Gilda’s entrance was breath taking! The set designers created beautiful scenery and the costumes were gorgeous. I do think that the Ruby slipper heels are higher than the original! I could never have made it through this adventure wearing 2 inch heels… oh wait, it is a dream, right?? If you have young children, just a note that there is use of fog, smoke and strobe lights which didn’t seem to phase my 6 year old. She was sensitive to the Witch’s cackle and Oz’s song, “Bring Me The Broomstick”. The acoustics were powerful during this song in particular and it was louder than the other songs.
We laughed, we sang and truly enjoyed the production. A highlight of the show was seeing Toto run across the stage for the first time. I have to say that he received the loudest round of applause at the end of the performance. I read that Toto’s name is Nigel and that he is a rescue. He did a wonderful job!
I highly recommend visiting Segerstrom Hall for your own Broadway experience. Every seat in the house gives you a birds eye view of the show. Make sure to check for specials such as Kids’ Night on Broadway to enhance your evening!
