Step into the magical Land of Oz at El Capitan Theatre! For three exclusive weeks, March 8 – 31, El Capitan is hosting Disney’s “Mysteries of Magic,” an enchanting creation of mystical arts presented by award-winning magician, Greg Wilson. Before every Oz The Great and Powerful showing, the classically-trained Wilson will perform various forms of magic. Well-known for his Sleight-of-Hand, Grand Illusions and Close-Up table magic, expect to be “wowed” by this modern-day wizard. To date, Wilson’s “Super Illusion” is his most astonishing trick, featuring Bolshoi Circus members and Wilson’s American team, totaling more than 100 performers and animals. This magic show is a great way to kick-off every Oz viewing!
The magic continues when you stay and watch Oz The Great and Powerful. From March 8 – April 30, guests can experience Oz The Great and Powerful in fantastic Disney Digital 3D™ and Dolby® Atmos™, allowing for better viewing and hearing of the incredible special effects. Directed by Sam Raimi (Spider-Man films), Oz The Great and Powerful is loosely-based on L.Frank Baum’s charming character played by James Franco (James Dean, Spider-Man). Before becoming “Oz,” he’s a spineless-womanizer and unknown magician named Oscar Diggs. After getting flung from dingy Kansas and landing into the fairy-tale Land of Oz, he meets three witches; Theodora (Mila Kunis from Black Swan); Glinda (Michelle Williams of My Week with Marilyn) and Evanora (Oscar-winner, Rachel Weisz of The Constant Gardener fame!) From the three witches, to the munchkins, to the flying monkeys – the CGI effects are spectacular!
As fate would have it, these three gorgeous witches aren’t totally convinced Oscar is the much-anticipated wizard. Alas, the Land of Oz needs help, and Oscar’s caught in the war of good vs. evil. After finally putting his ingenious mind to good use, Oscar discovers that he’s a better wizard than even he imagined! Find out how this fantasy ends. Then, check out the exclusive cache of elaborate costumes from Oz also on display! You might even find a few toys to take home.
