Deanobot’s 2015 Holiday Toy List
Almost anyone that knows me, or that is close to me, knows that I am a collector of stuff. Toys, games, plush, art, books, comics and other things. So it’s not that hard for me to pick some of my current favorite collectible and fun items for the holiday season.
Many of these are going to be somewhat toy related. I would pick some games, but that is much too long a list and I’m still not too sure about those popular hoverboards. Anything Star Wars is going to be hot this season, so you will see quite a few Star Wars related items on my list. I have tried to put them together in one group listing, where I can, to make it easier than having multiple listings. In some cases it is a bit difficult to do when they are part of a product line.
Two Star Wars related items that have been hard to find at stores since Force Friday are:
Sphero BB-8 Droid and Star Wars Black 6” Series figures.
Sphero BB-8 was a bit difficult to get when it was first released, but should be a bit easier to find in stores now that the supply has caught up to the demand. I did a tech review on this product recently. It is a really fun and unique item with a couple of limitations and cost. Hopefully more features are added after the release of the movie.
Star Wars Black Series 6″ figures are nearly non-existant on store shelves for the new movie. I mostly find just empty pegs where these figures should be at Toys R Us, Target and Walmart. A lone Chewbacca seems to be the character I run across the most. I have been lucky enough to find a few of them in a couple of stores I never thought would have them. These figures look and have much better sculpting than the smaller 3″ figures making the demand for them higher.
Star Wars Elite Series figures are exclusive to the Disney Stores and online. They are die cast and stand about 7.5-inches tall. On Force Friday characters from The Force Awakens were released and sold out immediately. Since then they have been restocked online. There have been limited edition releases of other characters from Episodes 1-6: Darth Maul, Anakin Skywalker, General Grievous, Stormtrooper, Darth Vader and recently Boba Fett. I missed getting some of the figures when they sold out fast online. The next figure to be released is from The Force Awakens on December 18.
Disney Infinity 3.0 figures from Star Wars – The Force Awakens will be another popular item. The first 4 figures from the new movie: Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, Rey and Finn. The figures of Rey and Finn will be sold together with a play set piece in Star Wars: The Force Awakens Play Set. Kylo Ren and Poe Dameron will be sold as individual carded figures. The Light FX edition of Star Wars figures should also be hitting the store shelves soon too. These are the same Star Wars figures that were released previously, with the light-up lightsabers added to Darth Vader, Yoda, Anakin Skywalker, Kanan, Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Disney Tsum Tsum plush are based on the characters in the popular Disney mobile game Tsum Tsum. The plush are designed to stack on top one another, just like in the game, and come in 3 different sizes: mini, medium and large (a 4th size, small, is only available in the Monthly Subscription Box). Every first Tuesday of the month is Tsum Tsum Tuesday. This is when a new series of limited edition Tsum Tsum are released in Disney Stores and online. Guardians of the Galaxy is set to be released on December 15 and The Lion King on January5, 2016. There was some artwork at D23 Japan the showed Star Wars and Finding Nemo Tsum Tsum, so these may be coming out early next year.
Disney’s Descendants dolls are based on the characters from the musical television film that aired on the Disney Channel. The characters in the film are the teen children of Disney Heroes, Princesses, Villains and other characters. They stand about 11″ tall and come dressed in a signature outfit with some accessories.
Hallmark Itty-Bittys are collectable plush featuring Disney, Pixar, Marvel, DC Comics, Wizard of OZ, Muppets, Peanuts, Star Wars and other characters. They stand about 4-inches tall, very cute and adorable plush. Some of the limited edition ones are harder to get, depending on where they are released. The Itty-Bitty Ornament line is in stores now just in time for Christmas.
Nintendo amiibos are a bit more plentiful than when they initially launched a year ago. Stores had smaller numbers of the exclusive and limited amiibos due to cargo shipping problems that took six months to resolve. Since then, some of these amiibos have seen limited re-release. The newest amiibo releases are the Yarn Yoshi, characters from Animal Crossing and amiibo-enabled NFC trading cards for Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer.
My Little Pony Chibi Vinyls line from WeLoveFine are incredibly cute. I’m not a huge fan of My Little Pony or a “Broney”, but these figures are pretty cool. The sculpting and design are top notch. These were initially released as blind boxes with 2 chase figures in the series. But after receiving many fan complaints, it was changed to an open box format. Most of the figures seem to be sold out and a pre-order has opened up for the newest figure, Applejack, on the WeLoveFine website.
Funko Pop! and Mystery Minis are still going strong with collectors. The figures crossover into so many genre (comics, movies, television, pop culture, animation) that there is a figure for everyone. You can find these in stores everywhere. Exclusive Pop! releases are a bit more trickier to find, like the Star Wars ones at Walgreens. The t-shirt line has some really cool designs too.
