Growing up in Boston gave me endless winter time play options as a kid. Sledding, building snowmen or snow forts and epic neighborhood-wide snowball fights were a awesome way to survive the long winters. Since moving to SoCal and raising my daughter here I have been in search of places to play in snow this time of year.
Then I found Discovery Cube and their Second Annual Winter Wonderfest! A super cool outdoor area that offers tubing, sledding and more wintery fun.
Beginning December 17, and running through January 8, both the OC and LA locations will thrill families with hands-on, cold weather activities.
Kids can slide down a 75-foot ramp in an inner tube and create a snow angel before taking a break at one of the learning stations, such as Animal Adaptations to the Cold, Three States of Water and Cloud in a Bottle. What a fantastic, engaging way for kids to learn about science and snow.
Step out of the cold for some indoor holiday excitement at the ‘Science of Gingerbread’ exhibit. There are gingerbread displays throughout the Discovery Cube. One of our annual family traditions is building a gingerbread house. It’s a nice bonding experience, so visit this exhibit for creative inspiration! Some of the other fantastic activities in the exhibit are ‘Gingerbread Derby’ where your kids can build and race their very own candy car; ‘Build a House’ learning station; ‘A Matter of Taste’ Stage Show (weekends only); cookie decorating in the Healthy Kitchen and Santa Meet & Greet (available on certain days).
>My tips for your visit: I’m heading to opening day of Winter Wonderfest, and I encourage you to bring your camera. There are so many opportunities to capture beautiful moments. Also pack warm (preferably water proof) clothes, as well as a wardrobe change of clothes so that you can explore the Cube dry!
Join the festivities on Opening day Saturday, December 17 from 10am to 11:30am to 12pm to meet LA Kings mascot, Bailey and the Ice Crew!
Winter Wonderfest tickets and general admission tickets (or valid membership) are required for entry. Purchase tickets here:
