Summertime brings visions of packing up the car and hitting the road. Engaging conversations and joyous songs will be sung. Snap! Back to reality. It is more like, “Are we there?”, “I’m Hot”, “I’m Cold”, “I’m Starving”, “Are we there, YET?” However, I have found something to make long rides more bearable and maybe even fun!!
Table Topics was created by Christy Clarke who came up with idea while on her way to a Christmas Cocktail Party back in 2002. She was sick of all the small talk and was trying to come up with some interesting conversation starters. Her conversation starters were a huge success. By the next morning she was writing down questions to test out on her three daughters during dinner. This resulted in the creation of Table Topics, a collection of conversation starters meant to spark fun, interesting, and meaningful discussions around the dinner table, at parties, on dates, on road trips or wherever!
Table Topics come in either to cube “table” version or you can get the To Go version for travel. The Cube version is available in 18 different themes ranging from Family to Not Your Mom’s Dinner Party. The To Go covers things like Road Trips, Kids and they even have a Pillow Talk version! We were sent Table Topics To Go- Road Trip and Kids to try out. My 16 year old daughter and I had a great time going through the questions. We loved hearing my three year old’s some what silly answers to the Table Topics questions. The Road Trip questions are great for all ages. With questions like “What are your favorite crayon colors?” to “What’s the most amazing thing you’ve seen from a car window?” You are sure to hear some interesting answers and stories. The Kids version is the perfect thing to keep in your car at all times. Sometimes when my 3 year old gets cranky and sick of being in the car we can pull out the deck and redirect her focus on to something fun such as “What is your favorite joke?” Each To Go Set contains 40 questions in a plastic slip case and retail for $9.
The Table Topics product line has expanded to include idea cards which offers suggestions of new activities to try out on a date, spending time with the family or even for a little me time. Party Topics features scatter cards, coasters and napkins. They even have journals! Each one page has a starter question on the top to get your words flowing. Journals are available for weddings, teens or pregnancy. Table Topics are a truly fun way to get people talking. You never know, sometimes the people you know and love may surprise you with their answers. I highly recommend these when traveling with kids. They also make great unique gifts for your favorite Host or Hostess.
