Once I had more children than I had hands (my hands were outnumbered times two), I became obsessed with finding a purse I could comfortably wear across my body to keep me hands-free for pushing the stroller, holding onto other kids’ hands and whatever else I had to grab quickly in my mother-life. That was years ago (the kids can be trusted to walk beside me now that they are in their teens but they won’t hold my hand, sadly). I still love a purse that stays close to my body and leaves my hands available. I also feel like it’s much more secure than carrying a purse over my shoulder, in the crook of my elbow or in my grip. That leaves me on a never-ending search for the best cross-body purse. Problem is, with all that I have to carry, all the bags I tried were chunky and heavy.
When I saw The Sash Bag http://thesashbag.com/, I jumped at it. Looking like a hippie Miss America with her cross-body sash, The Sash Bag cleverly provides multiple slide-in pockets and zipper pouches that hold a surprising amount while fitting close to the body. In addition to being reversible, the best part is that the weight is redistributed, making it much more comfortable to wear and much better for my neck and shoulder. I didn’t realize how heavy my old cross-body bag was until I transferred its same contents to The Sash Bag.
The main downside is the casual look. I reluctantly have to switch back to my other purse when I am going to meetings or when dressed up for the evening. But the rest of the time, it’s a handy bag. I’m able to be comfortably, securely, hands-free while holding all of my essential purse items.
That leaves me free to occasionally grab the hand of one of my teenagers – but only for a moment.
