Paramount Pictures has released the latest trailer for their newest Transformers movie, “Transformers One.” The animated feature, a collaboration between Hasbro and Paramount, explores the untold origins story of Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth) and Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry). Though the two were larborers who can’t transform working below the surface of Cybertron, were built as friends and then forged as enemies. However, a life-changing event put the two on a course towards conflict which would become the bitter rivalry that we know now.
The “Transformers One” trailer was revealed during opening day of the San Diego Comic-Con. Though the recent Transformers films have been of the live-action variety, the newest film is animated and features an all star cast lead by Hemsworth and Henry.
Since the “Transformers One” is more of an origins story, we will get to see the world of Cybertron and the rise of two leaders who will be on opposing factions. By exploring the characters’ origins story, the film will deepen the mythology – as complicated as it may be. But at least we will get to see how long this war has been going on and what drove former friends to be bitter enemies.
One interesting thing to note is that instead of having Peter Cullen reprise the role of Optimus Prime, the film goes a much younger route and has Hemsworth voice the future leader of the autobots. By doing so, it emphasizes on the character’s youth and inexperience. Obviously, the hero’s journey will allow the character to mature into the leader that he was destined to be.
The film also features the voices of Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, with Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm.
“Transformers One” opens in theaters on September 20, 2024.
