Review & Giveaway – Barney: Let’s Play Outside and Being A Friend DVDs

Check out these two new DVD titles from HIT Entertainment / Lionsgate. Both were released on May 18th.

Our thoughts: As a parent I appreciate videos that promote activity indoors or outdoors. I like that this video teaches children the importance of wearing sunscreen, exercise and of course using their imagination. Teagan is always actively engaged in the singing and dancing included in each Barney video. Barney videos regularly bring the focus back to the basic joys in life.  It’s always the simple things that are the most meaningful and memorable. Something such as Teagan and I watching the imagining shapes segment can lead to an important discovery for both of us. Teagan is learning about the world and learning how she practices it! I feel it’s bringing me and my family back to basics! My personal favorite is the Green Grass Grows All Around segment!  I remember singing that song when I was a kid.

Synopsis: Thomas’ friend Emily learns that being kind is more important than appearances, Bob the Builder helps Lofty accept help to save the Banana Tree for the new Botanical Garden, Barney and his friends make a new friend feel welcome when she moves into the neighborhood and no friend will be left behind with Fireman Sam, in Being A Friend. Join the whole crew and find out what it means to be forever friends with these four episodes:

Our thoughts: My daughter has a nice group of friends but at her age she’s still learning about “being a Friend.” Most toddlers are learning important friendship skills, such as sharing, taking turns and teamwork. This fun video highlights great messages like helping our friends, not judging a book by it’s cover and accepting new friends that move into our neighborhood. Teagan enjoys the different characters and I enjoy the length of each “lesson.”  Our favorite episode is Thomas The Train. Friends have to learn to how work out their problems and also have fun together. Emily and Whiff  resolve a problem regarding differences in appearance. I like that the Thomas the Train stories are narrated rather than acted out.  And I think most girls can connect to Emily who shows girls that they can be fans of trains too!
