My boys are polar opposites when it comes to their tastes in food and eating habits. Jack refuses to eat vegetables, Nate asks for seconds.Jack will only eat a select few fruits, Nate will eat them all. Jack pushes food around his plate and refuses to eat anything “new”, Nate typically eats what we give him without complaint. It amazes me how different they are, considering they came from the same stock and have been introduced to foods the same way.
I find myself constantly looking for new products to give them to make eating more fun. If it involves sneaking some fruits and vegetables into Jack’s diet, I’m sold. My forays into adventurous eating with the boys are not always met with excitement. Even little Nate, my foodie, will occasionally turn up his nose to something he deems too “weird”. They both refused to eat my broccoli nuggets (which were awesome, thank you very much) and lately they both seem to have an aversion to any meat that isn’t in nugget form.
We were given the opportunity to try out Crispy Green’s FruitziO snacks. These products are freeze dried real fruit, so I was willing to give it a go. I knew, at the very least, that Nate would love them. We received a variety of fruits to try out – strawberries, apple, mangoes, apricots, kiwi, cantaloupe, and banana, to name a few. We opened up a bag of strawberries and apples to try out first. Jack promptly turned away and said “yuck”. I convinced him that they were like apple chips, so he reluctantly tried them. He didn’t like them (BIG surprise), but I don’t think he even really tried them. Nate on the other hand, ate a whole bowl of the mix and asked for more the next morning.
So far, all the flavors we have tried have been great. I am partial to apples and kiwis, but Nate likes all of them! I’m looking forward to trying all the flavors myself, and at less than 40 calories per serving, they are a satisfying low-calorie option!
FruitziO snacks are made with 100% freeze-dried fruit slices and just a hint of pure cane sugar. The combination makes for the perfect blend of crunch and sweetness. They are free of additives and preservatives and are gluten, nut, fat, and cholesterol free.
While these great little snacks are a treat for both Nate and myself, Jack hasn’t warmed up to them yet. I’m still hoping he’ll come around and give them a try. They really are a yummy treat! They would also make a great in-car snack (they’re not messy at all!) or a healthy addition to a little one’s lunchbox.
