When I was growing up, I had, what I thought, was the ultimate outfit designer. I’d slide a few plastic shapes into place, break a crayon in half and rub the design until a full-fledged, totally awesome outfit appeared. Who was I fooling? My girls recently had the chance to visit http://www.fashionplaytes.com/ and design their own outfits. They got to pick the outfit, colors and appliqués. No plastic, my friends…real clothes that ended up being super cute, and I’m sure will be summer favorites at our house!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked into a store, trying to find outfits that are age-appropriate. Having a pre-teen is really hard, as she wants to look like her friends, and everyone she sees on tv, even though I’m trying my hardest to stop her from growing up too fast! FashionPlaytes.com is a dream come true, because it gives her the chance to create clothes that she likes, while providing base outfits that I’m completely okay with. Plus, each base outfit comes in a variety of colors, so even when my two girls pick out the same outfit, they can personalize their choices so they remain unique.
The first step is deciding what to design, which is hard because there are lots of categories (tops, Bottoms, Dresses, Doll Clothes, Lounge Wear, Accessories, Family Items, Under $20 and Clearance), and within each category, there are tons of selections!
Once the item has been selected, you select the size. My girls are both on the slim side, so I thought that size 12 would be best for both of them. I’ll admit that when we received the outfits, I wished that I had ordered 14’s for both of them. The size 12 states that the weights are between 84 – 100 pounds, Emily is 82 pounds, and Ellie is 76 pounds, however, the outfits fit just right – no room to grow in them over the next few months.
Depending on the item choice, your designer can select solid colors, prints, or tie-dye styles in several colors. Then there are over 100 different appliqués in tons of themes including animals, bling, peace signs, flowers, seasons, sports, and lots more to choose from, ranging in price from $3 – $6. Some items allow you to add designs to the bottoms – especially with the dresses and skirts – many around $5. Finally, your designer has the chance to create a personalized label for their brand new outfit so they can not only be happy wearing it, they can show that it’s their own custom design, which are $4.
My girls both decided to create rompers – with a base price of $18. Emily added two appliqués, and Ellie selected only one. The total for both outfits was $46, which, I’ll admit, was more than I would usually spend for rompers, but they absolutely love them. This was a definite treat for them – a congratulations on a great school year – gift, so it was worth every penny. The outfits less than two weeks after the girls designed them, and they loved the stickers, business cards, and invite to join the Fashion Advisory Club – all nice touches to add to the smiles on their faces.
The website is fantastic as well with areas where kids can design away – free of charge! They have contests, party kits, a studio section, trend alerts and plenty more areas to keep the creative ideas flowing. They’ve even got gift certificates so your favorite girls can try their hand at designing too.
