The holidays are just around the corner, and Dreamworks wants you and your family to celebrate the season with the long-awaited sequel for “Puss in Boots.” Universal Pictures has just released the latest trailer for “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.” In the sequel, Puss is faced with an existential crisis after recklessly wasting eight of his nine lives being heroic or roguish. Now with his last life, he embarks on the ultimate quest to find the mythical Wishing Star to restore what he’s lost. But along his journey, he comes to find out that he will need help to defeat the likes of Goldie (Oscar® nominee Florence Pugh, Black Widow) and the Three Bears Crime Family, Jack Horner (Emmy winner John Mulaney, Big Mouth) and terrifying bounty hunter, the big, bad Wolf (Wagner Moura, Narcos).
“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” looks and feels like a storybook illustration coming to life. This is exciting considering how refreshing it was to see a similar style in “The Bad Guys” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” It’s that blend of CGI animation with traditional animation that makes everything pop. What’s more, is that the two styles seem to help push the Puss’ story forward as the title character has to deal with crisis about his place within the world.
“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” features an all-star comedic cast that includes Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek Pinault returning as Puss and Kitty Softpaws, respectively. They are joined by Oscar® winner Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone (Black Widow), Samson Kayo (Sliced), Emmy nominee Anthony Mendez (Jane the Virgin) and Tony nominee Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Trolls World Tour).
“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” opens in theaters on December 21, 2022, with sneak peeks coming on November 26, 2022.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish:”
For the first time in more than a decade, DreamWorks Animation presents a new adventure in the Shrek universe as daring outlaw Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Puss has burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count along the way. Getting those lives back will send Puss in Boots on his grandest quest yet.
Academy Award® nominee Antonio Banderas returns as the voice of the notorious PiB as he embarks on an epic journey into the Black Forest to find the mythical Wishing Star and restore his lost lives. But with only one life left, Puss will have to humble himself and ask for help from his former partner and nemesis: the captivating Kitty Softpaws (Oscar® nominee Salma Hayek Pinault).
In their quest, Puss and Kitty will be aided—against their better judgment—by a ratty, chatty, relentlessly cheerful mutt, Perrito (Harvey Guillén, What We Do in the Shadows). Together, our trio of heroes will have to stay one step ahead of Goldi (Oscar® nominee Florence Pugh, Black Widow) and the Three Bears Crime Family, Jack Horner (Emmy winner John Mulaney, Big Mouth) and terrifying bounty hunter, the big, bad Wolf (Wagner Moura, Narcos).
