An amazing thing happened the other day. My 14-year-old son arrived home from school, with two friends in tow. They were famished, as always. And, as always, my son stood there with the fridge and freezer doors open looking for something that is never there – junk food. He asks every day and every day I tell him “no” but suggest all of the healthy and also tasty things he can have. But on this particular day, I had just received samples of Veggie Patch Broccoli Bites and Spinach Bites to try out on my veggie-fighting kids. I made them and the kids gobbled them up and asked for more. Seriously. They asked for broccoli and spinach. I could practically hear the angels singing.
I’m sure the premise behind taking vegetables and breading them into nuggets is to appeal to this generation of chicken-nugget lovers. Heck, even KFC had to start making chicken nuggets because the younger generation didn’t know what to make of a drumstick or thigh. The good part is, that in Veggie Patch’s case, they made vegetables accessible and acceptable – on kids’ terms. And they are delicious, I have to say, even for my adult, veggie-loving palette. They have just the right blend of savory seasonings but still, absolutely retain true vegetable flavor and texture.
The product is microwavable and actually turns out just great from the micro. You could dip them in sauces but we really loved them just on their own. The Broccoli Bites and Spinach Bites would be a great solution for a parent who is really struggling to get their child to eat veggies, especially the uber healthy ones, broccoli and spinach.
Courtney received samples of the product to facilitate her review. But her opinions and words are strictly her own.
