Being a teacher, I can honestly say that schools today are very different than when I was a student. As the sizes of our schools expand, the budgets seem to shrink. Principals are forced to look for places where money can be saved, and our Art, Music, PE and other “Specials” classes always seem to take the first hit. The Paul Frank Art Supplies Round-Up is a fantastic way for people to help put a crayon, marker, pastel or paintbrush in the hand of a budding artist. This national drive is helping to provide schools as well as after-school programs with art supplies – and is the brainchild of Paul Frank Arts, The Dreaming Zebra Foundation based in Portland, Oregon and P.S. ARTS based in California.
People who would like to donate can find a wish list of items directly online at http://www.dickblick.com/ara/lists/2560/home or send new or gently used art supplies to Dreaming Zebra • 5331 SW Macadam Ave., Suite 258-522, Portland, OR 97239 for distribution to schools across the country.
A fantastic Community Service Project, elementary, middle and high school students can even host their own local Paul Frank Art Supplies Round-Up. Any art materialsthey collect can be for their own schools, or to raise money and collect donations for kids in need. They can even collect art supplies and mail them to the Dreaming Zebra Foundation, then share their event on the Paul Frank Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/PaulFrank!
The Arts truly are an area that is in great need for our schools. With less and less money and time being allowed in the place of curriculum restrictions, keeping the Arts in our schools is essential. We’ll never know what masterpieces will be created if we don’t give our kids a chance to explore, and draw, and just be kids!

Thanks for the update on donating to Dick Blick… we have a store near my house.
I agree with you. Art is SO important for kids and with tight budgets kids are seeing less of it.
Our Art program ended up having to be paid by our P.T.A. Art is so important for the children to explore their creative side.
