Paramount has released a “Mean Girls” featurette where producer and screenwriter Tina Fey talks about the film and musical’s lasting impact and how these devious characters have become so belove
“Over the years, I’ve realized that these characters and this story have had a much longer shelf life than anyone anticipated,” Fey says. “For this new movie, how can we surprise and delight people who are already familiar with the story?”
Some of the newest Mean Girls like Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Auliʻi Cravalho, and Christopher Briney reflect upon the franchises legacy by talking about how the original 2004 film impacted them. Because when you watch the original “Mean Girls,” “everyone knows the trio in pink,” Cravalho said.
The featurette also teases some of the metaness as well as the surprises we can expect to see in the new telling, including how its an adaptation of the musical – which is actually an adaptation of the 2004 film – and how they try to through in a new nods like fetch.
Paramount Pictures will offer the Early Access Screening event on Wednesday, January 10 at 7:00pm local time, presented in select theatres across the country including Dolby Cinema auditoriums and other premium format screens. Tickets for the Early Access Screening Event and participating theatres can be found HERE.
Fey and Tim Meadows reprise their roles from the original film, with Jenna Fischer and Jon Hamm joining the franchise as newcomers.
Directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr., “Mean Girls” is scheduled to hit theaters on January 12, 2024.
