Early in the evening of March 4, 2015, shortly after LEGOLAND California closed for the day, something new and very exciting for was about to be unveiled! Stormtroopers rushed into the LEGO® STAR WARS™ Miniland area of the resort to secure the area so Darth Vader could make his entrance and join LEGOLAND California’s General Manager, Peter Ronchetti and R2-D2 who were already there. They used the Force to help unveil the LEGO® Star Wars™ Miniland Death Star Model Display and ignite its planet-destroying superlaser, in the presence of a large group of invited guests, during quite an exciting opening ceremony!
The LEGO Death Star model is LEGOLAND California Resort’s latest major addition to LEGO® Star Wars™ Miniland, which originally opened in 2011. The new Death Star Model Display opened to the public the next day, on March 5, 2015, just in time for the LEGO Star Wars™ Days event at the resort on March 7 and 8, where guests were invited to spend their day participating in Star Wars™ related activities while in the park.
LEGO Master Builders constructed the LEGO Death Star model out of more than 500,000 LEGO bricks. It is the largest addition to LEGO® Star Wars™ Miniland at LEGOLAND, standing 13-feet high, measuring 8-feet wide, and weighing more than 1900 pounds. This new model display features iconic film scenes made of LEGO® bricks that were filmed inside the Galactic Empire’s space station including the famous trench run scene where Luke Skywalker maneuvered his X-wing fighter through the combat zone to destroy the Death Star. The LEGO Star Wars™ Miniland Death Star is designed from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. It includes six animated Turbo Laser Turrets and LEGO starship models built out of more than 20,000 LEGO bricks.
Adjacent to the newest planet-shaped LEGO model addition to Miniland are building stations which encourages guests to use their imaginations and creativity to construct their own LEGO starships. The entire area promises fun for Star Wars fans of all ages. Come make your own disturbance in the force at LEGOLAND California Resort!
