Another great Olympic event that Gavin and I were able to attend recently was the Fire Garden at Stone Henge on July 11. We live about a 30 minute drive away from the “rocks”, as Gavin likes to call them. I actually did not know about the event until that morning! I am so glad I decided on an impromptu trip to Stone Henge for their exclusive English Heritage jam!
It was a bit windy and the views of Stone Henge were blocked by the Fire Garden sculptures for the event. I could tell that the tourists were a little disappointed by that. It was definitely difficult to get a clear shot of Stone Henge with all of that stuff in the way. But, we weren’t there for pictures! Our mission was to get some jam and run around the rocks!
The Fire Garden was a three day event by French outdoor fire alchemists Compagnie Carabosse. I found out you could only buy tickets in advance online. Good thing I purchased our tickets as soon as I got home! The entire event was sold out by that afternoon! I paid £8 (or $13) for my ticket plus parking.
The whole evening was AH-MAZING! I did not realize we would be allowed to walk within the inner circle of Stone Henge! That was the highlight of my evening! The music, lighting, and fire sculptures created this peaceful ambiance. There were these lights that were lit up throughout the stones, not too bright. They were actually white shirts covering the light, but looked pretty cool. Then there were metal sculptures along the outside of the stones. A little further away there were fire pots and more metal sculptures with fire.
Gavin was awake the whole time! I think he enjoyed the fire displays and people watching. We ended up staying for a little over two hours! I couldn’t believe it! This was one of the best experiences in the UK I have had so far!

Wow, that looks amazing. Reminds me of the art installation in Central Park a couple of years back called The Gates.
