Colorado is chock full of wonderful activities and places to go to with kids. It was hard to narrow it down to just six! But here are my tried and true choices for favorite places to take the kids in Colorado.
1. Best living history museum: Littleton Museum
With two farm sites complete with homes, school, fields, blacksmith and countless animals and costumed guides hard at work, it is truly like being plunked into the 1800’s to stroll this museum. And, it’s free!
2. Best park to spend the whole day in:City Park
The huge park itself has multiple playgrounds, a lake with a fountain and paddleboats, gorgeous gardens and ducks to feed. As an added bonus, the Denver Zoo and Nature and Science Museum are also located in the park.
3. Best art museum for kids – The Denver Art Museum
One of the preeminent art museums in the country, the Denver Art Museum knows how to keep kids happy too with interactive programs throughout the museum including backpacks you can check out with hands-on activities inside that amuse as well as educate.
4. Best family-friendly restaurant – Noodles & Co.
The kids will probably gravitate to the Wisconsin Mac & Cheese or the Spaghetti and Meatballs but parents will find plenty for their sophisticated palettes from the American, Asian and Mediterranean menus – all for cheap.
5. Best family-friendly evening under the stars – Concerts and movies at Stapleton
In this neighborhood made up primarily of families, no one will get upset when your antsy child needs to get up and run around a little during one of the weekly, free concerts or movies, held outside, throughout the summer.
The stores are primarily for adult shopping but you can easily bribe your child into good behavior for a while when they know that the big, indoor playground is waiting along with food from a variety of quick restaurants.
