Exclusive, hand-crafted, Disney princess-inspired stunning gowns by Roberto Cavalli (Pocahontas), Ralph & Russo (Tiana), and Versace (Cinderella), just to name a few appear inside D23 Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit.
While the United Kingdom has their Princess Kate, thanks to Walt Disney and his Imagineers, we have gorgeous princesses for our little girls to admire. Multiple sets of their glamorous gowns debuted this past December 2012 in Harrod’s, the Knightsbridge, London, luxury store. On display daily at the Anaheim Convention Center from Aug. 9-11, gown designs were inspired by the stories of the Disney Princesses. Stunning jeweled, sequenced, and hand-crafted gowns were made by Ralph & Russo (Tiana), Versace (Cinderella), Elie Saab (Aurora), Marchesa (Ariel), Escada (Jasmine), Missoni (Mulan), Roberto Cavalli (Pocahontas), Jenny Packham (Rapunzel), Valentino (Belle), and Oscar de la Renta (Snow White). Now, those same elegant dresses will be on display in the U.S. at the D23 EXPO inside the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit.
In celebration of the upcoming 50th Anniversary of Mary Poppins, Walt Disney Archives Chief Archivist Emeritus Dave Smith will host “Behind the Scenes of Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins.” Discover how Walt Disney found the book, Mary Poppins. Smith will also discuss how Disney developed the script with the original Poppins author, P.L. Travers. Hear stories of how Disney selected award-winning cast, and scored memorable tunes with the Sherman Brothers composers. Disney’s “Secrets of ‘The Lost Chords,’” features music historian and Grammy®-winning producer, Randy Thornton, who exposes the history of some of Disney’s “lost” songs. Such tunes have been literally forgotten for decades! This exclusive D23 event includes opportunity to hear never-before-heard tracks in production for an upcoming Lost Songs release!!
For another aesthetically, ear- and eye-pleasing experience, follow the yellow brick road to Disney Artist and Historian Stacia Martin for, “Sounds Delightful: An Illustrated Audio Adventure.” This melodic and entertaining journey bridges decades via vintage Disney Vinyl Recordings from her massive personal archive. You’ll hear family turntable classics of yesteryear, along with rare musical production tracks.
