David Leitch is among one of the top action directors of all time. His take on “John Wick,” gave audiences a chance to process a grieving former assassin brought back into the fold after the loss of a precious dog left behind by his late wife. He expanded the world of Deadpool with even more violence and metahumor. And then showed how bad ass women can be in Atomic Blonde. And now “Bullet Train” is a amalgamation of that, but within its titular setting and stars Brad Pitt as a former assassin looking to leave that world by taking on a simple job of retrieving a briefcase. But what Pitt doesn’t know is that there are also other assassins looking for the same briefcase.
The trailer teases the film’s sense of style in the explosive action and quippy dialogue. Of course, it also helps to have a retro hip song like the Bee Gee’s “Stayin’ Alive” to help keep things in the groove. And the way it transitions to Spanish when Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny appears is ingenius. And the film looks like it has plenty of fun, especially during that opening moment between Pitt and Brian Tyree Henry as they fight each other while in the ‘quiet train.” The way the kick and punch each other as they try to muffle the sounds or any other loud noises not only adds to the humor, but it shines a light on the complex choreography.
